Over one third of the 1,000 highest scoring students in the national university entrance examination choose to enroll in METU; and most of its departments accept the top 0.1% of the nearly 1.5 million applicants. METU had the greatest share in national research funding by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) in the last five years, and it is the leading university in Turkey in terms of the number of European Union Framework Programme (FP) projects participation. The Regional Campuses and Distance Education (RCDE) system works to fulfill USU’s land-grant mission to increase access to a high quality education. Part of this includes accepting nearly all applicants to attend one of its campuses, if not the main campus in Logan. Beyond Logan, USU provides academic resources and support throughout the state. Growth of RCDE is outpacing that of the Logan campus with enrollment up 8% to 12,109 students enrolled in RCDE courses in 2010.

Regional campuses exist in Brigham City, Tooele, and the Uintah Basin, as well as the Price and San Juan campuses that constituted the former College of Eastern Utah (now known as USU-College of Eastern Utah). Distance Education operates 21 education centers throughout the state including Moab, Ogden, Orem, and Salt Lake City. At each of these locations, students may receive a wide selection of degrees without ever stepping foot on the Logan campus. Courses and degrees are also made available online through Distance Education.
Utah State University Cooperative Extension, referred to simply as Extension, operates 30 offices throughout the state, which include Thanksgiving Point and the Utah Botanical Center. Extension offers research-based, unbiased information to communities through their county offices and are an integral part of a land-grant institution. With a focus on teaching, research, and public service, Extension programs include 4-H, agribusiness, Expanded Food and Nutrition Education, gardening and yard care, personal finance, and animal health.

The university bears the name of Honourable William McMaster, a prominent Canadian Senator and banker who bequeathed C$900,000 to the founding of the university. McMaster University was incorporated under the terms of an act of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1887, merging the Toronto Baptist College with Woodstock College. It opened in Toronto in 1890. Inadequate facilities and the gift of land in Hamilton prompted the institution to relocate in 1930. McMaster was controlled by the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec until it became a privately-chartered, publicly-funded non-denominational institution in 1957.

The university is co-educational, and has nearly 23,000 undergraduate and over 3,500 post-graduate students. Alumni and former students of the university can be found all across Canada and in over 120 countries around the world. The McMaster athletic teams are known as the Marauders, and are members of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

The university was founded as the The Western University of London Ontario, a demonimational school of the Church of England, by Bishop Isaac Hellmuth and the Anglican Diocese of Huron. The university became secular in 1908 and was given its present name in 1923. The university has over 23,000 undergraduate and over 5,000 graduate students. More than 220,000 alumni and former students of Western can be found in over 100 countries around the world. The Western varsity athletic teams are known as the Western Ontario Mustangs, and are members of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport.
